The TIMS team manages all of the master control and transmission for Prime Video, including the live sports that we produce for Amazon Prime. The TIMS team has their own Iconik domain, which stores all Net Return programming of any sporting event that we distribute on Prime Video. This can include both 1P sporting events that Amazon produces, but also includes any 3P or passthrough programming that we don’t produce, but distribute in the Prime app.
Since content streamed in the Prime app is in the HDR at PQ format, that does not match the format used in live production for 1P sports, which is HDR at HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma) In many cases, programming accessed from the TIMS Iconik domain will be in PQ and would need to be converted to HLG in order to match the format used in PVLS programming.
For reference, HLG is a BBC and NHK developed format utilizing relative brightness and the HDR broadcast standard for live sports or news, where PQ is a Dolby standard utilizing absolute brightness and typically used for mastered HDR content such as shows, movies or Blu-Ray.
When logging into Iconik this can be a little tricky, as a user can only be logged into 1 Iconik domain at a time. If you are currently logged into the PVLS Iconik domain and need to switch over to access the TIMS Iconik domain then do the following:
- Log out of the PVLS Iconik domain
- Log back in by entering youe email
- At the password screen, click the option Can't find your domain? Sign in with your password.
- Once you enter your password and sign in you will see a list of available Iconik domains. Select the Amazon Alternative PV_TIMS domain and you will be directed to their Iconik instance.
- In the Collection tree, navigate to the Seattle TIMs S3 MAM collection and then into the Switch sub-collection. Inside you will find the current season’s event recordings organized by sport. In the event the content you are looking for isn’t in the Seattle TIMs S3 MAM collection, the next best place to look is the Prime Video Live collection.
Transferring content from the TIMS Iconik domain to the PVLS Iconik domain
You can select programming in the TIMS Iconik domain and run a workflow to transfer that content to the PVLS Iconik instance. To execute this workflow do the following:
- Right-click on an asset in the TIMS Iconik and select Transfer/Copy Asset
- Set the Destination to S3-001-PVLS-SEND-TO
- Use Current Path needs to be enabled
- Click Transfer/Copy to initiate the workflow
In the PVLS Iconik domain you can locate the file that you transferred as follows:
- Locate the collection labeled S3-055-PVLS-TIMS-TRANSFERS
- The file structure will mirror the same content organization from the TIMS instance
- Files will not transcode during this transfer, everything will transfer in the native format
- Upon transfer, the CONTENT ORIGIN field will set to TIMS automatically
- There is no additional metadata coming across in this workflow.
To confirm the color space on a file do the following:
- Open the file in the Iconik Media Player
- Access the Files module and locate the Original Media Format
- Open the 3-dot menu and select See Metadata
- Search the metadata within the Video section towards the bottom for the Transfer Characteristics value. You should see the following options
- PQ - This is the Dolby standard of HDR
- HLG - This is the BBC/NHK standard of HDR
- BT.709 - This is SDR or Standard Defintion
